Black & White

Black & White

I won 2nd place again in a costume contest a couple of weeks ago, but RL has kept me much too busy to blog the outfit until now.

The theme was simply "black & white." All I had to buy for this outfit was the Glam Rock Suit, bracelets, and hair. Okay, I didn't have to buy new hair, but I'm not one to let a good excuse for shopping go to waste. Plus, this style is simply too reminiscent of Cher for me to resist adding it to my wig collection.

Faerie Flirtation

01_25_15_001

Something else I love about SecondLife is that I sometimes I get invited to events with themes like Wings & Underwear. I spent a mere $250L on new wings, clothes, and a tattoo for tonight's event and was lucky enough to win 2nd place in the contest, so I figured I should snap a few shots before bed.

A Very Merry Unbirthday (Lapointe & Bastchild)

As you may remember, shortly after my return to SL my dear friend Orlando buried me in gifts from Lapointe & Bastchild. I spent an entire afternoon trying on clothing and taking photos, with the intent of making several detailed blog posts about the outfits. Unfortunately, after the first post, I got distracted by limited-time event items and group gifts while the Lapointe & Bastchild photos sat neglected and sad on my hard drive. Today, I decided to start off the new year by giving some love to those photos and L&B's fabulous designs.

In order to keep from overwhelming my readers with a flood of information, I won't be providing my usual in-depth descriptions for every single outfit. However, if you want to know the details of anything featured in this post, please feel free to drop me a notecard in-inworld (Ezerbet Nitschke) or contact me up Plurk (EzerbetNitschke). (Please don't IM me, those get capped fairly quickly and I might miss your message.)

Unless stated otherwise, all clothing is from Lapointe & Bastchild.

Very Merry Unbirthday

The photo above shows several variations of L&B's S'Wear Insolent set ($499L). The boots are NOT included, they're L&B's Elise Ankle & Knee Boots - PATENT BL ($699L), a set which comes with both ankle-high and knee-high boots.

Very Merry Unbirthday

The outfits above are made up of both solo pieces and by mixing and matching items from sets with solo pieces. For example, the jeans in the 2nd photo and sweater in the 3rd photo are both from L&B's S'Wear Mischief Hoodie fatpack ($699L) which contains 7 colors of argyle sweater hoodies, jeans with matching argyle swatches on the back pockets, and matching belts.

Very Merry Unbirthday

The 2nd outfit in the photo above is L&B's S'Wear Tempt Black Leather set ($499L) paired with the same L&B Elise Ankle Boots I mentioned earlier in this post.

The shirt I'm wearing in the 1st and 4th photos is L&B's Death Royale Beaded Halter ($399L) which has 8 HUD-driven texture options (all black).

The cropped tee I'm wearing in the 3rd photo above (and a couple other photos in this post) is L&B's S'wear Mesh Cropped T-shirt ($399L) which has 4 HUD-driven design options in 3 colors (cream, black, and pink).

Very Merry Unbirthday

The pants I'm wearing in the 1st and 3rd photos above are L&B's S'Wear Zipp Women's Leather Pants - Color Set ($599L) which have 23 HUD-driven color options for the pants and 2 options for the zippers (silver and bronze).

The boots I'm wearing in the 1st and 4th photos are L&B's L&B S'Wear Carissa Ankle Boots ($599L) which have 24 HUD-driven color options for the boot leather, 11 options for the metal studs and buckles, and 2 options for the soles (black and beige).

The heels I'm wearing with the blue outfit in the 3rd photo are Kristen Slink Heels High Feet by FashionNatic ($380). They have corset lacing on the back and underside of the shoe, and have 20 HUD-driven color options for both the main part of the shoe and heels (changed separately so you can create your own combinations), 2 options for the metal rivets on the back (silver and gold), and a plethora of "create your own color" options for the fabric behind the laces on both the back and underside of the shoe (also changed separately). You can get a better look at them on the Marketplace.

The heart-shaped sunglasses I'm wearing in the 3rd photo are the Puppy Love Shades by Sn@tch ($100L). They're mesh shades which are touch-scripted for size and have 22 touch-scripted color change options for both the lenses and frames (changed separately).

Very Merry Unbirthday

The 1st outfit in the photo above is L&B's Swear Candy" Zipp Mini Skirt - Tartans ($499L) which has 20 HUD-driven tartan/leather combinations and 8 options for the zipper and studs. It also has 19 leather and 22 tartan options so you can create your own pairings. The top is L&B's S'Wear Beaded Halter - Knit Brights ($399L) which has 12 HUD-driven color options. The boots are the knee-high version of L&B's Elise Ankle & Knee Boots - PATENT BL ($699L) - the ankle version of which is shown in the very first photo of this post.

The 3rd outfit is the S'Wear Mischief Hoodie fatpack ($699L) that I talked about in detail beneath the 2nd photo in this post.

The 4th outfit is the S'wear Mesh Cropped T-shirt I mentioned earlier and L&B's S'Wear Pencil Skirt FatPack2 ($499L) which has 24 HUD-driven color options. The boots are L&B's S'Wear "Bianca" Ankle Boots - Smooth Neutrals 2 ($599L) which come with 16 HUD-driven color options for the leather, 3 for the soles, 18 for the straps, and 2 for the zippers and buckles (silver and bronze). I'm also wearing Ebony Stockings by Bettie's ($50L) which have a lovely seam on the back.

Post-Holiday Bliss

Post-Holiday Bliss

Ah, post-holiday sales! They're even better in SL, because no one is running into your heels with shopping carts or cutting in front of you in the checkout line.

Tonight, I bring you news of a holiday gift and deeply-discounted items.

The hair I'm wearing is one of 3 holiday gifts from Exile. All 3 styles are available for purchase in the store, but these are a limited-edition Candy Cane color. (They're all red & white; the style I'm wearing has white streaks in the back.) The box (which is on a table directly across from the store's entrance) contains After the Rain (female - 2 sizes), Day The World Went Away (male and female versions), and High and Dry. High and Dry is sold in the shop as a male hair, but I love the way it looks on my avatar, I feel like P!nk. (It's mod, but required very little editing to fit my head.)

Exile: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Covet/131/140/33

The eyeshadow and lipstick I'm wearing are part of La Boheme's Year-End 60% Off Sale, which runs through December 31st. La Boheme's eyeshadows and lipsticks are NOT skin tone specific, so you can wear them with the skin of your choosing. That said, avatar shape DOES matter, so it's a good idea to try the free demos before buying. Due to the No Transfer nature of the products, La Boheme has a No Refunds policy.

Boheme Beauty

As I've mentioned before, Santana Lumiere has been one of my favorite SL creators since I was just a wee little avatar back in 2006. When she was the sole creative force behind Nevermore, my home was filled with her furniture, my closets stuffed with her clothing, and my vanity covered in her makeup and nail polishes. These days, she's focusing solely on beauty and has renamed her brand La Boheme. Nails have been her primary focus for awhile now (I've previously blogged about her gorgeous Slink nails), so I was thrilled to hear she's expanding her eyeshadow line and is once again creating lipstick.

In addition to the high quality of Santana's work, there are two things that sets La Boheme above the rest...

1) Her eyeshadows and lipsticks are NOT skin tone specific, so you can wear them with the skin of your choosing. That said, avatar shape DOES matter, so it's a good idea to try the free demos before buying. Due to the No Transfer nature of the products, La Boheme has a No Refunds policy.

2) The prices. A new look from La Boheme isn't going to to empty your wallet. Not to mention the store regularly participates in hunts and gatcha events. In fact, there are currently 5 hunt items in her store, one of which is a gatcha hunt item filled with sparkly fae-like face paints. The regular hunt items are $0L or $1L each and the gatcha item is $25L per play. (Click on the treasure chest on the front counter for hunt hints.) As if that wasn't enough, every week in December Santa Santana is putting new freebie items beneath her Christmas tree, just look for the packages with the bronze ribbons. Here's an slurl so you can pop right over to the store and grab all of the goodies: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/The%20Wash/230/75/24

Below is a small sampling of the items that are already available in-store. Most of them are fairly dramatic because I wanted to show you the new Feline Instinct collection of eyeshadows and some of the Glam style lipsticks. Santana tells me there are more eyeshadows on the way as well as gloss versions of her lip colors, and I can not wait until they hit the shelves! Details are listed with the eyeshadow first and then the lipstick. As always, prices can be found at the bottom of the post.

I also want to show you some of La Boheme's less-dramatic makeup. Once again, I've started with a photo of me in the barest version of my favored skin (see above).

Orange is the New Blog

Alex Vause

RL has been kicking my butt something fierce, leaving me with little time for SL and no time at all for this blog. However, tonight I found myself with a bit of time to kill before an SL movie night with friends, so I popped over to see what this month's Collabor88 had to offer. As usual, there were many cute items, but I was most pleased to see a new hairstyle by Exile.

I was wearing my glasses when I tried on the demo, and immediately thought "OMG! I look like Alex Vause!" When I mentioned it to Kavar Cleanslate, the genius behind Exile, and he admitted he's also a fan of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, I immediately began to quietly scheme.

I popped over to the Marketplace and found this super affordable tan prison uniform by Inscribed. (They also offer an orange set if you want to rock the new inmate look.) The top and pants are one mesh piece that comes in 4 sizes, and the long-sleeved white undershirt is a system item that's worn on the shirt layer. (The ad shows a black undershirt, but the item is actually white, which matches the outfits in the show.) It also comes with a prim badge that's texture change, containing the IDs for Vause, Chapman, Crazy Eyes, Nichols, and Pennastucky. (You can also IM or send a notecard to the creator for a PSD file to create your own custom badge.)

I then grabbed a background image from ye olde interwebs, popped down to the photo studio in my basement, and started shooting. Now if I could only find me a Nichols.

Clubbin'

Clubbin'

Another of my favorite stores for well-made, affordable clothing is Sn@tch. Not only can you often get Fatpacks of clothing for $200L, but they have riot vends, lucky boards, and a fishing area. I recently spent some time fishing for the Club Kid outfit because I was drawn to the feathered jacket - which I just now noticed I'm wearing the XL version of instead of XS, but I kind of like the way the over-sized version plays up the fluffy aspect. I know the coat can be purchased separately in a variety of colors, and I suspect most or all of the other outfit items can as well. The whole outfit is fabulous, but I wanted to show how the pieces can be mixed and matched with other items.

You can see the full Club Kid outfit over on the Sn@tch blog (scroll to the bottom of the post).

Clubbin'

As you may have noticed, I sometimes wear items that are from my previous time in SL. To make my lindens stretch as far as possible, I try not to buy all new pieces for every outfit. At first, I wasn't going to do that for my blog posts, but I decided it would be good to show that some older items can still hold their own when worn with newer releases.

CLUB KID ITEMS:

Eye Makeup: 19 - Temptress Eye Makeup (Teal) by Sn@tch

Ringmaster

Ringmaster

As promised in my sneak preview the other night, here's the second outfit I bought at Cirque de Seraphim. For just under $200L, you get all of the clothing items except the hat and tights. Both the bolero jacket and corset come in 5 sizes and fitted mesh versions and alpha layers so you can wear each item separately or together. The outfit also comes in a lovely white/gold version. Cirque de Seraphim runs through November 26th.

Ringmaster

Don't even talk to me about that hat. It's beautiful, but I loathe adjusting prim items - especially when hair is involved. I was glad I'd chosen black hair for this outfit, because it hides the little places where the hair pokes through the hat a bit. The swoop of the hair in the front also helped with positioning, because it's so well-constructed that it looks like it's falling over the brim of the hat.

Speaking of hair, the style I'm wearing in these photos is Exile's contribution to this month's Collabor88. You can get each color group for $88L or the entire Fatpack for only $888L!. Why are you still here? Go grab some bargains!

Lorelei

Lorelei

I finally made it to Cirque de Seraphim the other night and, though I didn't buy a lot, I did go home with a few things that caught my fancy. The first item was this cropped sweater and slit skirt set by Goth1c0. They're another vendor who's been around since my rez day in 2006, and I was pleased to discover they're still in business. The outfit seemed like something my RL friend Lorelei would like so, even though she's not in SL, I decided to put together a look based on her style. I'd already had my eye on Schadenfreude's Alchemy Stacked Necklaces at this month's Collabor88 and, since I felt they'd go well with the outfit and also fit Lorelei's style, I patiently tried over and over to get to Collabor88 until, finally, the sim was no longer full and I could dash over and buy a few necklaces.

Lorelei

Cirque de Seraphim also yielded a lovely Slink compatible thigh and foot tattoo set from Pervette. (And a second outfit that I hope to blog very soon.) The skirt would probably fit better with heels but, to be honest, I liked the look of it so much while barefoot that I never even bothered to try on shoes with it.

Lorelei

The rings are ones I've had for a long time, but they're both still available (at least on the Marketplace). The eyes were a splurge but they come with a HUD that has an insane amount of customization options. At $395L, they actually feel like a bargain because I doubt I'll ever have to buy another pair of eyes again. I highly recommend grabbing the demo off of the Marketplace and then watching the demonstration video over on YouTube.

Mother Nature

Mother Nature

As I mentioned in last night's sneak peek post, I started working on putting together another outfit based on items from the Fantasy Gatcha Carnival, when I suddenly found myself wanting to look like a faerie. Once again, it all started with a new hair from Exile. When I realized how well this adorable new updo shows off my pointy ears, I immediately had visions of a glamorous elf in a slinky gown. I checked out the Fantasy Gatcha Carnival's website, found a dress that would suit my needs and could be obtained with one machine play, and hailed a cab.

Mother Nature

I then decided that I wanted to have more delicate ear decorations than the spiral horns of my trusty Changeling Ears by Schadenfreude, so I headed off to Mandala where I found these AMAZING ears! You get 2 sizes - long and short (I'm wearing the short) - with multiple appearance options. You can have plain ears with no decoration at all; choose between painted ear tips, feathers, and beads/studs - or have all three. (If there's a way to only change the options on one ear, I couldn't figure it out.) Additionally, you can change the color of the ear paint, and texture and glow settings of all of the jewelry.

Mother Nature

After splurging on my ears, I decided it was time to get frugal and sort through all of the gatcha duplicates my friends sent me upon my return to SL. I'm glad I did, because among them was this gorgeous headpiece by Miamai. The trio of hummingbirds hovering around the leaves made me feel like Mother Nature, so I poked around in my older inventory items and unearthed some Material Squirrel wings which still look beautiful. Finally, I went to La Boheme to take advantage of the 50% Off sale they're having on slink-compatible nail HUDs this weekend. (So the mani/pedi in this post only cost me $25L.)

Mother Nature

A quick search for a fantasy location for the photoshoot yielded Elven Forest, where I found the animated butterfly attachment and a set of rose vines that, should I choose, could wrap my entire right arm from fingertip to shoulder. A shopping expedition for poses which make it easy to photograph fingernails lead me to Infinity and their gatcha machine full of firefly jar animations, rounding out the theme of my shoot perfectly.

I'd been trying to avoid the siren call of the Fantasy Gatcha Carnival because I just received a lot of new clothes to play with and blog about; but the event kept coming up in conversations with friends, and I saw a photo of an outfit that intrigued me. The final blow to my resolve was realizing a hair I'd been admiring would go great with said outfit. So I grabbed my bag of quarters and skipped off to play the slots.

The gambling gods were with me last night, because my first 3 plays on the !gO! machine yielded all of the pieces I needed for a complete outfit. (None of them are the same color, but they mix/match well.) I also got the staff I'm holding on the first try. That isn't to say I didn't end up with a couple of items that weren't what I'm looking for, but there were only 3 of those and 2 have been gifted to friends.

Don't spend all of your money at the carnival, though. Save some for a trip to La Boheme where all Slink-compatible polish HUDs are 50% off through November 10th. That's only $25L for each 10pk! Also, through Sunday you can pick up a couple of FREE Slink-compatible manicures and pedicures from the table at the back wall. (A sampling of the gold pedicure can been seen below.) Tips for any ongoing hunts can be found on the counter at the front of the store.

I Am Sam I Am

Very Merry Unbirthday

And so it begins - the posts about all of the nifty Lapointe & Bastchild clothing Orlando recently gifted me with. Unsurprisingly, there wasn't a single item I tried on that I didn't like. I've put the photos together in triptychs and polyptychs, roughly grouped by style, but I might spotlight a few particular outfits here and there in the future. These photos were actually taken at the end of the night, after I'd tried on all of my gifts and picked up the September group gift that was still out in front of L&B's store as of today. (There's a t-shirt version for the men.)

I also got Sam I Am the cat from Orlando. She's adorable, with a lot of interactive options and random behaviors, including one which tells you that you can't play with her because she's napping - which is what happened when I tried to cuddle her for the photos above. (So, basically, just like almost any RL cat.)

Happiness is...

I have the best friends EVER! Today while I was getting in some sorely-missed SL social time, my friend Orlando was off shopping and dropping bags from Lapointe & Bastchild on my head. I was buried in them by the time he was done! I'm pleased that L&B is still around, as they're one of the best fashion designers in SL, and thrilled to have a bunch of new clothes from them to try on. (I'm sure a photo or several will show up here.) THANK YOU, ORLANDO!

I also want to mention the mobile phone I'm holding in the photo below. While wandering around yesterday looking for interesting and PG-rated gatcha machines for adults, I stumbled across L'Anguisette Skin & Body Shoppe and their smartphone gatchas. One is Halloween themed and the other has a variety of phones with Jessica Rabbit, Marilyn Monroe, Marla Singer (!!!!) and other fun designs. At just $50L a play, I couldn't resist - especially since each phone comes with a typing animation. (A "no animation" version is also included.) I was excited when my first play yielded one of the Jessica Rabbit phones, but disappointed to receive a script error when I wore it. I contacted the store's owner, Phedre Lowtide, said "hello," and politely explained my problem. She responded very quickly, apologized for the problem, and cheerfully fixed it right away. I was so impressed by her stellar customer service, that I commissioned her to make 2 sets of custom smartphones with photos of my friends and their partners on the back. They're gorgeous and I'll likely be ordering more in the future. L'Anguisette Skin & Body Shoppe is a fairly new vendor, but one I think is worth keeping your eye on.

Haunted Halloween Sim 2014

Masoma County - Haunted Halloween Sim 2014

While poking around for gatcha machines tonight, I stumbled across the Masoma County- Haunted Halloween Sim.  Less than 5 minutes into my journey through the gloomy sim and I knew I had to share it with you guys.  If you have a bit of time today, I recommend paying the sim a visit for a bit a spooky fun time while you do a bit of shopping.

Who knows?  You might make a new friend...

I'm Back!

I'm Back 001

Hair: Nina - Mystery by Exile ($1000L Fatpack)
Jacket: Maisie by FashionNatic ($280L for a full outfit w/ a ton of HUD options)

It took a lot longer than I'd anticipated - over 2 years - but I'm finally back in SL. Since I've been gone for so long, my avatar needed nearly a complete overhaul. Well, okay, she didn't need one, but I kept hearing about Slink hands and feet and the progress of mesh items and was feeling a bit shabby. So, like the day I first logged in nearly 8 1/2 years ago, my dear friend Nigel gave me a short list of "must haves" and took me shopping. That's him in the photo above, patiently loitering behind me as I try on skin& shape demos. (Doesn't he look like a cute little shoulder pet?)

I'm sure it will take me awhile to get up-to-speed with the changes of the past few years, but I hope to soon resume semi-regular updates here. For now, I'm going shopping to fill my closets and furnish my cute new home. (Seen behind me in the photo below.)
