You may have noticed that my last post was over 3 years ago. RealLife, as it will, got in the way of SecondLife for a myriad of reasons. I finally returned to SL in August of this year, but it's taken me awhile to get my blogging feet back. Part of the delay was the result of becoming a member of the
Gimme Gacha family with a small shop of my own, but most of it was getting the hang of all of the new options available to avatars. After I spent a few days putting together this Halloween look, I decided it was finally time to make a new post.
It all started with
Cassie Middles' video preview of the 2018
Salem event. I saw this "Elly" dress by Una and knew I had to have it. I love items that allow users to customize their look so much that several different avatars can be wearing the same outfit, yet not look like clones. With the "Elly" dress you have the option of the full dress (no skeleton), a skeletal torso without flowers, and a skeletal torso with flowers. It also comes with left and right skeleton arms. I opted to only wear one of them because I like the way the asymmetry contributes to the partially decayed look.
I'm fascinated with how well the skeleton and flowers of the "Elly" dress are sculpted and textured. At one point, I decided my avatar should have rats crawling in, on, and out of her. I couldn't find any shoulder rats, so I got a bunch of mice from a gacha machine at Plastik and attached them to several different points on my body.
The bloody hair is also something I saw in
Cassie's preview of the current
Salem event. It's !Oleander's "Kkyung Bloody Massacre" and comes in a 4-pack of natural colors: Mummy (seen here), Pumpkin (light orange), Vampire (black), and Werewolf (brown). I had a feeling it would work well with the "Elly" dress and I was right.
The eyepatch is a free gift from Yokai to Gimme Gacha group members who visit the
GachaLand event this month. I love it when things fall into place like that. From there I spent several days trying to find the right skin and other items to contribute to the "crawled from the grave" look of my avatar. Izzie's was a HUGE help in that department, providing me with eyes that can be configured separately, dirty nails, a bloody hairbase, and a few different blood & wound appliers for my face and body. (The hairbase, face, and body appliers all come with a variety of options for blood amount and color.)
Finally, I was content with my look and needed some poses and a backdrop, both of which I was lucky to find at
The Mad Circus. Unfortunately, you can't see much of the Spooky Night Backdrop by The Dark Fae in my photos, but it comes with 2 tombstones with skulls on top, a bunch of flickering candles, and swirling fog. It's copy/mod, so you can tweak it to your liking. When I saw that the "Some say it's morbid" pose pack from X.T.C. came with a rat, I knew I needed to look no further. (Note: The expression in the last photo is from the Catwa head HUD, not the poses.)
